๐ป In the future, users will be able to display ads on Facebook or Instagram for a fee.
๐ฒ According to an anonymous New York Times source, Meta is reportedly considering removing ad zones from its popular social media apps and offering paid, ad-free versions instead.

โ๏ธ In past years, there have been ongoing conflicts between Meta and EU regulators regarding data breaches and the collection of personal user data.
๐ The European Union introduced the GDPR to protect the online privacy and data protection of its citizens*. The EU also banned Meta from combining user data between Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
๐ถ By transferring Facebook user data from the EU to the US, the group already had to pay a fine of 1.2 billion euros.

๐ Whether Meta’s new platform Threads will soon be available in Europe is still unclear. The planned Digital Markets Act (DMA) will restrict the reuse of personal data within companies in the future, which may also be a reason for Meta’s hesitation.โ๏ธ Meta already gives users in the EU the option to opt out of personal advertising. An opt-in provision for all users within the European Union is also said to be under discussion. However, Meta itself has not yet issued an official statement on the plans.
