How does Google understand what I am looking for?

Google now answers this question in its own blog “The Keyword”. Here is an overview of the most important findings:

🧠 By using a wide variety of artificial intelligence systems, Google can infer what we are actually trying to find when we make an incorrect entry.

💙 In search, Google does not use a single algorithm, but hundreds of algorithms and machine learning models that act at different times and work hand in hand.

❤️ RankBrain is Google’s first AI and helps rank the most appropriate search results.

💛 The AI system BERT, for example, understands how words in different arrangements take on different meanings. Currently, BERT is significantly involved in almost every English search query.

💚 The newer AI system MUM can even generate languages, but is not yet used in Google Search.
