The “State of CMS 2024” report offers some interesting insights. It is surprising, for example, that 47 per cent of respondents use two to three content management systems, while 33 per cent even use four or more. Although 67 per cent use multiple CMSs for omnichannel functions, it turns out that this is neither necessary nor recommended and harbours risks such as content silos and inefficiency.
The survey also shows that certain CMS functions are particularly important and others less so. For example, the majority consider collaboration, omnichannel and visual editing functions to be essential, while less than a third consider AI functions to be necessary.

The 2024 trends show an interest in three specific content management functions:
– AI-generated content
– automation
– Personalisation of content
This development underlines the rising demands and expectations of CMS users worldwide. Experts are increasingly looking for ways to address a diverse audience, maximise their productivity and seamlessly integrate new features.

Headless CMS has quickly gained in importance. Many users are planning to make the switch in the next two years, as a modern tech stack offers many advantages.
Over 99 per cent of those switching from monolithic to headless CMS report benefits, particularly in terms of a higher ROI, which a full 61 per cent of users are already experiencing.

Security gaps and missing functions are a common reason for a CMS migration. A future-proof system is crucial for success and high-quality content. However, migrations also harbour risks and challenges. Companies should therefore define their requirements before making the switch and check how a new CMS should fulfil them. Personalised demos and test versions can be helpful here.
